No More Store-Bought Seasoning Packets!

Tacos and Ranch

As I'm sure you're aware, store-bought packets of taco and ranch seasoning have way more than just seasonings in them. They usually contain preservatives, sugar (or some form of sugar) and fillers that simply don't need to be there.

You'll be amazed at how much you'll prefer homemade seasoning blends over the store-bought packets!

There are two staple seasonings that we use in our home on a regular basis. We are avid taco and ranch fans here, but I don't like to use the store-bought packets to make either of these. It's simple and quick to mix up your own...not to mention, the flavor of a homemade seasoning made only of herbs and spices can't be beat! Keep scrolling to find my recipes for both taco and ranch seasoning.

Taco Seasoning

Ingredients:

Below are the ingredients you'll need to gather to make a batch of taco seasoning:

  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • 2 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper

  • Up to 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions:

Combine all of the spices and mix thoroughly.

To make taco meat: Brown your ground beef and drain/rinse. Add seasoning mix and approximately 1/4 cup of water and cook until the water evaporates and meat is evenly seasoned.

This makes approximately 3 tbsp, or the equivalent of 1 packet of store-bought seasoning.

This recipe can be used to season 1 pound of ground beef.

I like to multiply this recipe and make a bulk batch of seasoning. I store it in a mason jar and use approximately 3 tbsp of mix for each pound of ground beef or chicken.

Ranch Seasoning

Ingredients:

Below are the ingredients you'll need to gather to make a batch of ranch seasoning:

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp dried dill weed

  • 1 tsp parsley

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:

Combine all of the spices and mix thoroughly.

To make ranch dressing: Combine 1 cup of avocado oil mayonnaise (or mayo of choice) and 1 cup of whole-fat plain Greek yogurt (can also sub sour cream, if you wish). Stir in seasoning mix and approximately 2 tbsp of dill pickle juice. You can use additional pickle juice or milk to thin the dressing out more, if you prefer.

This recipe makes approximately 4 tsp of seasoning mix, or the equivalent of one store-bought packet of ranch seasoning.

I also make bulk batches of this and store it in a mason jar.
